Problem / Challenge
Many women struggle to understand the emotional and behavioural patterns that shape their financial decisions. Conversations about money often focus on what to do – save, budget, invest but rarely on why we make certain financial choices. This lack of awareness can lead to recurring money stress, impulsive spending, and a sense of disconnection from one’s financial goals.
What We Did
To address this, Connecting Stories hosted a virtual session titled “Why Do We Spend Money the Way We Do?” sponsored by the National Lottery Community Fund.
The interactive event invited participants to reflect deeply on the emotional and cultural influences behind their spending habits. Through open discussions, guided exercises, and expert-led insights, attendees learned how to align their financial behaviour with their values and goals.
The programme attracted 71 registered attendees, and over 95% of participants reported increased financial awareness and confidence in managing their money.
This session changed how I see money. I realised that some of my spending habits were tied to childhood experiences and social pressures. Now, I pause before making financial decisions and feel more in control of my future. It was a truly eye-opening experience.
